You will notice that there has been a jump in the number of days since I last posted! This is due to me being absolutely exhausted at the end of each day, and the last thing on my mind (and Hari’s ) was sitting down to write a blog! So please forgive me!
We finished yesterday in the pouring rain, covered in mud, and so as we affixed the last Great English Way Sticker with arrows pointing to Canterbury Cathedral, we fought our way passed hundreds of tourists, and tourist shops (selling London T – Shirts, and beefeaters standing outside! – not real ones!) I showed my Pilgrim Pass to the man on the door (given to me when I completed the Jerusalem to Canterbury walk in 2014), lined Hari up for a photo opportunity, and turned towards the Train Station to catch the train to London so I could spend 3 days helping my 93 year old dad with gardening and other jobs around the house!
The total distance is almost 400 miles mapped but a couple of laps of the cathedral courtyard should put you over the 400!
I have too many stories to tell, dozens of film rolls to develop, 20 hours of HD video tape to go through, 10 hours of audio recordings of the sounds of the landscape and conversations with people along the way… but for now I have to help an elderly parent, make sure Hari recovers, and get my pack ready for Saturday 23 May to go back to Falmouth and do it all again!
The planned arrival date for the second pass of the great english way, is on the summer solstice, 21st May 2026…
That’s it for now folks!
See you on the path soon!
Alan and Hari
ps Someone said to me ” A pilgrimage from Falmouth to Canterbury? That doesn’t exist. And you’re not religious? That’s not a real pilgrimage”
Tell that to my feet!
