HELLO FROM TINHAY!
Hi everyone, I’m sure no one is reading these blog posts yet as it takes a long time for people to discover websites, especially ones relating to long distance walks and pilgrimages, etc! But I shall keep posting these for posterity and to keep the archive up to date!
After walking the great english way twice in the last couple of months I felt it was time to start the writing part of this massive transmedia project that covers arts, film, the building of 21 sanctuaries along the path from Falmouth to Canterbury, the sounds of the landscape, a photographic exhibition, 3 films, a documentary, 3 books, and a public arts installation project… all created by little me, alan macmillan orr, and my sidekick Hari, who is a labrador! And has probably done more pilgrimages than most humans, despite his advancing age!
The community interest company that has been set up is not yet active, as its primary purpose is to uncover disused buildings, churches, and land and acquire them for a £1! Otherwise I will spend the rest of my life trying to raise enough money to purchase them at commercial rates!

Hari and I are camping rustic style, at Tinhay Retreats in Tinhay Devon, to get a bit of peace and quiet, and although quiet, it has no internet access at all! which at this stage of the project is not ideal, as I have to be in touch with people to develop the next stages of the project (more on this later). We have a tiny backpacker tent, no stove, and I am eating oats and water for breakfast and lentils and tomatoes for dinner! with the occasional nuts and a beer! I’m almost a monk! Or better! ha ha. It’s just off the great english way, as I have decided to move the walk off the two castles trail to avoid land access issues, as I had to literally throw hari over the fences the farmers had installed, which included barbed wire. Hari is not a fan of farmers and their cows, or barbed wire and neither am I!
Hari and I are here for the next week, and then we move on to the ancient village of Lydford, to map out the route from Lifton (where Lt John Richards Lapenotiere stopped to change horses on his way to deliver the news to the admiralty that the battle of Trafalgar was won, but Lord Nelson was dead.)
Hopefully I will have finished writing the books by September as the plan is to walk the route medieval style in October and do a timed walk, (run and jog) it in December for our very first Foster Powell Pedestrianism Award (the six day challenge) which I do not expect to complete in six days… and he walked from London to York (400 miles, same as Great English Way in less than 6 days in 1771!)
